Visiting Nashville? Protect against DUI charges

There are many reasons to visit Nashville, with many people doing so because of its nightlife. From music venues to bars to restaurants, there’s no shortage of locations for having a good time.

Unfortunately, if you take a good time too far, you could find yourself in trouble with the law. Here are some tips for avoiding an out-of-state DUI while you’re visiting:

  • Leave your keys at home: Rather than drive to your destination, opt for an alternative mode of transportation. For example, you can take a taxi or Uber to the bar or party. This removes the possibility of driving under the influence.
  • Find a designated driver: Maybe you’re hitting the bar scene with a few friends. Designate one person as the driver of the group. This ensures that you always have someone who is 100 percent sober to get you and others from point A to point B.
  • Know your limit: When consuming alcohol, don’t push yourself. If you know you have to drive and/or have somewhere else to be, going overboard is a mistake you don’t want to make.

Should you find yourself under arrest for driving under the influence, remain quiet and follow the direction of the officer. Don’t do anything that could result in additional criminal charges, such as resisting arrest.

Once you’re processed and booked, learn more about your charges and the DUI laws in Tennessee. Remember, laws vary from state to state, so you need to formulate a defense strategy accordingly. It makes good sense to get help from a local source, as opposed to a legal professional in your home state.
